My Review: *I got this comic from NetGalley for an honest review.*
I’ve seen people talk about the choices NetGalley has had before and I always felt like I missed out on some good ones. I decided to see which ones they had under the Read now category. The artwork for this looked like something I would be into and I was right. It had a very cute feel to it but it was also very dark and gory. I love gory comics. I always enjoy that the art style in comics can get away with so much. I feel it makes the story a lot more fun.
Anyway the story is about this little girl named Gertrude who gets sucked into Fairyland and the only way she can get out is to find this key that has been hidden somewhere in the world. Gertrude ends up being stuck in there for so long it begins to change her. She becomes this horrible killing machine that the Queen wants to be stopped because she is ruining Fairyland. So this is Gertrude’s story.
I was a little skeptical at first reading this story but I ended up really enjoying it. I feel the artwork had a big part in that. I said before it was cute but also gory. There were a lot of different types of characters which I always enjoy. I also enjoy how the author found replacement words for curse words because after all Gertrude is a young girl so they wanted to make her seem sweet even though she’s a killing machine.
I would highly recommend this. It’s a quick read that can be read in about 30 minutes or so. I will be keeping my eye out for the next volume.
This comic comes out April 26, 2016
