Hey everyone. I’m sorry for barely posting last week. I was feeling really drained so I ended up only writing one post. 😦 In the last week I decided to take part in Spookathon. Spookathon is a week long readathon that went from October 16th to October 22. It’s hosted by Lala, Paige, and Shannon. They started it last year. I am so happy I decided to participate this year! Now let’s hear how it went! Here are the challenges and books I read for the readathon:
Spookathon challenges
1. Read a thriller – Little Monsters By Kara Thomas & You By Caroline Kepnes
2. Read a book with a spooky word in the title – Little Monsters By Kara Thomas
3. Read a book based on a childhood fear – The Walking Dead, Vol. 28: A Certain Doom By Robert Kirkman
4. Read a book with orange on the cover – You By Caroline Kepnes
5. Read a book that has a spooky setting – The Walking Dead, Vol:28 A Certain Doom By Robert Kirkman
You By Caroline Kepnes
Started Reading: October 16th
Finished Reading: October 17th
Plot: When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.
There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.
As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.
My Thoughts: I overall enjoyed this book. It’s been on my mental TBR for a while now. I was so happy to get this one and the sequel for my birthday. I was so happy I had a reason to dive right into it. I do feel I thought it was a bit over hyped. Overall I found it extremely creepy. I know I saw some people saying they were rooting for Joe, the main character. I felt myself anxiously hoping he would get caught. I will put up a more detailed review hopefully later this week. I am interested to see what the next one deals with.
The Walking Dead, Volume:28 A Certain Doom By Robert Kirkman
Started Reading: October 17th
Finished Reading: October 17th
Plot: In the aftermath of The Whisperer War–ALL IS LOST as Rick and all of Alexandria fight for survival against the largest horde of walkers they’ve ever faced.
Collects THE WALKING DEAD #163-168.
My Thoughts: Well I’m up to the 28th Volume of The Walking Dead. I have to say I am enjoying it. I don’t want to say too much about this Volume since it is so far in the series. I have to say it was very action packed. I am curious though how much longer these comics will be around for. It’s a good series and I enjoy it. I just feel after a while there is only so much you can do. I am patiently waiting for the next volume.
Little Monsters By Kara Thomas
Started Reading: October 17th
Finished Reading: October 18th
Plot: Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister.
Kacey’s new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls—she’s even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them.
Which is why it’s so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don’t invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn’t exactly feel like an accident.
But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.
Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.
My Thoughts: So I’ve been wanting to read this for about two months. I have to say overall I enjoyed it. I did like Kara Thoma’s first book, The Darkest Corners ,more. This still was a great YA thriller and I recommend you checking it out. I have this book signed and Kara wrote, “Trust No Bitch.” I have to say I feel like that pretty much sums up the book.
So as you see the two books I read only took me two days each. Since I ended up finishing all the books so early I decided I would finish a book I started before the readathon. I’m happy to say I finished that one as well and will be including it in this post.
Cress By Marissa Meyer
Started Reading: October 12th
Finished Reading: October 21st
Plot: In this third book in Marissa Meyer’s bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and prevent her army from invading Earth.
Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl trapped on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s being forced to work for Queen Levana, and she’s just received orders to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is splintered. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price than she’d ever expected. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai, especially the cyborg mechanic. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.
My Thoughts: I finally decided to start the third book! I really enjoyed this one better than the last. I really enjoyed how each character was in different places. I liked seeing how everything came together. I do have to say the only thing that’s been annoying me in these books is the romance. Everyone of the new girls introduced has some love interest. This one annoyed me a lot with Cress’s crush. I didn’t really like Cress but I do feel I was a bit hard on her. This book was very action packed. I can’t wait to finish the series!
Spookathon was very successful. I got a lot of reading done. I was surprised it went so well. I didn’t give myself a lot of books to read because I didn’t think I would finish them all. I can’t wait for next year’s readathon. I do have to say by the time I finished my last book I was so tired from reading. I am attempting to do a readathon of one book and it is tough. I haven’t had the energy to read. Hopefully this ends because I would love to squeeze in another book or two before October ends.
Did you guys participate in Spookathon? If so what books did you read for it? Did you end up reading all the books you wanted to? I would love to hear about your experiences.
