Hey guys it’s time for another movie wrap-up. I was a little bit bummed last month because my subscription with Moviepass ended up expiring. I’ve been really enjoying going to the movies a lot. I still will go but not as much as I was the past couple of months. So let’s dive in and see what movies I watched in April!
Isle of Dogs Directed By Wes Anderson
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, and Sci-fi
Runtime: 101 mins
Released: April 13th 2018
Rating: PG-13
Plot: An outbreak of dog flu has spread through the city of Megasaki, Japan, and Mayor Kobayashi has demanded all dogs to be sent to Trash Island. On the island, a young boy named Atari, sets out to find his lost dog, Spots, with the help of five other dogs… with many obstacles along the way.
My Thoughts: I loved this movie so much. I think it’s my favorite movie I’ve watched so far this year. I am a huge fan of dogs so I should have seen this coming. The story deals with these dogs helping this boy find his lost dog. The animation was just so well done. I loved every second of it. Plus I love all the dogs you end up meeting. They were so interesting and unique. I highly recommend this movie.
Thoroughbreds Directed By Cory Finley
Genre: Drama, Thriller
Runtime: 92 mins
Released: March 9th 2018
Rating: R
Plot: Two upper-class teenage girls in suburban Connecticut rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. Together, they hatch a plan to solve both of their problems-no matter what the cost.
My Thoughts: This was a movie I saw a trailer when I went to the movies. It looked like it would be up my alley. I am sad to say, I didn’t end up enjoying this movie as much as I would have liked. I found myself bored most of the movie. Plus the one scene I was looking forward to seeing wasn’t even shown so I was a bit upset by that. I did think it was very well shot and the acting was well done. It just wasn’t the movie for me.
A Quiet Place Directed By John Krasinski
Genre: Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Runtime: 90 mins
Released: April 6th 2018
Rating: PG-13
Plot: Two parents do what it takes to keep their children and soon to be newborn safe in a world full of creatures hunting every sound they can hear. Not a sound can be heard from the family hiding in silence, but all it takes is one noise and everything can go wrong.
My Thoughts: So I don’t really go see horror movies much. I decided since I still had Moviepass I would check it out. Now I think the concept of the movie is really cool. You can’t make any noise or the monsters will get you. So I thought some of the concepts they came up with were really cool. I just felt since the movie was so quiet during the beginning it was a bit hard to focus. I ended up feeling so tired after this movie. My FitBit even thought I was sleeping. I know a lot of Horror fans liked this a while. While I did enjoy it, I didn’t love it like everyone else.
The House Directed By Andrew Jay Cohen
Genre: Comedy
Runtime: 88 mins
Released: June 30th 2017
Rating: R
Plot: After the town scholarship program no longer has funding, two parents are left without money to send their daughter to university. Left without any other options, they along with a friend, start an illegal casino in his home to make cash before the summer ends.
My Thoughts: So I put this on because I was in the mood for a comedy. I wasn’t expecting much from it. I did think it was such a fun idea that to help their daughter go to college they build a casino. I wasn’t really surprised that I barley laughed. I feel I also just put this on because I love Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell. There are a lot better comedies out there.
Spider-Man: Homecoming Directed By Jon Watts
Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Runtime: 133 mins
Released: July 7th 2017
Rating: PG-13
Plot: Peter Parker is exploring the concept of becoming an Avenger. Tony Stark tries to help Peter, but he does not have total faith in Spider-Man to become a hero. And so Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man sets off to prove he is worthy to become an Avenger!
My Thoughts: Spiderman was one of the first superheros I really got into. I heard good things about it so I knew I had to check it out. I have say I didn’t end up loving this movie. I did think it was interesting to see a young Spiderman. I also enjoyed how silly and juvenile he is. That isn’t something you really see in superheros. He was very determined to prove himself to Iron Man. Overall decent movie. I am interested what they do with Spiderman in Infinity War.
Ingrid Goes West Directed By Matt Spicer
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Runtime: 98 mins
Released: August 25th 2017
Rating: R
Plot: Ingrid Thorburn is an unhinged social media stalker with a history of confusing “likes” for meaningful relationships. Taylor Sloane is an Instagram-famous “influencer” whose perfectly curated, boho-chic lifestyle becomes Ingrid’s latest obsession. When Ingrid moves to LA and manages to insinuate herself into the social media star’s life, their relationship quickly goes from #BFF to #WTF.
My Thoughts: This movie was crazy but I really enjoy it. I felt Audrey Plaza was prefect for this role. She gets so caught up in these random stranger’s life. I feel social media can really become addictive. Plus it’s always about us showing our how “perfect” our life is even though that might not be the case. I’ve never been so obsessed that I ended up moving away from home and tried to insert myself into a stranger’s life. I have been a little too invest in people’s lives though from time to time. It was just interesting to see how far Ingrid was willing to go.
What movies did you guys see in April? Any movies you recommend I watch? Have you seen any of the movies I listed? I would love to hear your thoughts!
I would 100% recommend Infinity War as and when 😀 It’s literally the only film I saw this month XD
