Hey guys! It’s time for another Owlcrate Unboxing. This box I was super excited to get because I had been promoting the book since January and I really wanted the exclusive cover for it.
So let’s dive in!*This is not my photo. This photo was taken by Erin @erinelizabethreads.*
The theme for this month was Shadows & Secrets. I knew right away that the book was going to be Ace of Shades. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the exclusive cover. I have to say the other items I wasn’t familiar with the fandom. I only knew the quotes on the pencils which were from Harry Potter. Still a lot of great stuff! This was the card that tells you all the spoilers. Plus there was a pin in the box that matched that design. I really love this design. I thought it was so well done. There is just something about it that really catches my eye.
Next there were these very simplistic pencils. I love that they have Harry Potter quotes on them. I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. Sadly, I don’t have a pencil sharpener to sharpen these. I mainly use pens. I almost don’t want to use them and mess them up. They just look so perfect. This pencil set was designed by Jubilee Designs.NoT
Next there was this amazing pillowcase. This is something I absolutely love. I wasn’t familiar with where the quote was from when I opened it. I still really love the design and the whole look of this pillowcase. It is from Crooked Kingdom. I am currently waiting for a window seat to be built in my room. You know once that is built, I am adding this to the seat. I really can’t wait to read the Six of Crows duology even more now. This pillowcase was designed by Stella Bookish Art.
Next in the box was soap. Now I’ve never read the Shadowhunters but I still really appreciated this. I recently ran out of the other soap I was using. So I am happy that now I am able to use this in the shower. It smells amazing. I will be checking out more soaps from this company once I use this up. This soap was made by Three Sisters Apothecary by Soap Cauldron.
Next was this beautiful vinyl sticker. I also wasn’t sure where this quote was from. I do really love the design a lot though. This quote is from The Young Elite series. I don’t know anything about it. This quote makes me super interested in finding out more. I’m going to have to pick it up at some point. This vinyl sticker was made by Jamila Mehio.
Next was a bag of coffee. Owlcrate had announced a spoiler for this box. It was that there was going to be coffee from Bones Coffee in April’s box. This coffee sounds amazing. I am a huge fan of dark chocolate. I bet it tastes amazing with the sea salt. I sadly don’t have a coffee machine to make this. I really wish I did because I’d love to try this. I am so bummed about not being able to taste it. Plus I love the design on the bag. It gives me major Halloween vibes. This coffee was made by Bones Coffee.
Next was this sampler of Legendary. They included this because Caraval was one of Owlcrate’s books for 2017. I thought this was a nice way to pay homage to a previous book. I actually recently read Caraval so I was excited to see this. However I’m not big on samplers. I think it’s a nice gesture but I hate knowing I could get into the story but not have the whole thing in front of me. Thankfully I only have to wait 2 more weeks until this comes out.
Finally the moment you guys have been waiting for is the book! I honestly knew right away this was going to be the book. This was one of my most anticapted reads of the year. I got was grateful to be put on the Blog Tour for this book. You can read my review Here. At first I was a little skeptical about this change in cover. The more I think about it the more I feel it fits the dark theme of the book.
Plot: Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…
and secrets hide in every shadow.
Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.
Frightened and alone, her only lead is a name: Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and a con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.
Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…
And she’ll need to play.
Overall I thought this was a great box. I wasn’t familiar with most of the fandoms in this box but still enjoyed the items. This month’s box theme is Fight Like a Girl. I already know what the book is and it’s another one of my most anticipated reads. I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Do you guys get last month’s Owlcrate? If so what was your favorite item from last month’s box? If not, have you read Ace of Shades or at least interested in picking it up? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
