My Thoughts: So I recently read and reviewed Unraveling Oliver by Liz Nugent which I loved. You can find my review here. I was so excited when I heard Liz had a new book coming out. Liz is honestly becoming one of my favorite authors. This is the second book by her that I ended up rating 5 stars.

This is one of those thrillers that starts you off with the murder. Right away you find out that Annie Doyle was killed by Lydia’s husband and she deserved it. So I find when this happens in a book, the rest that follows ends up falling flat for me. However it was not the case with this book. Liz Nugent still has a lot of explaining to do. There is so much left to uncover. That’s what I really love about her books. She tells you something shocking but yet there is still so much more to it that she has yet to unravel.

Now the way Liz let’s everything unravel is through the characters. Her stories are very character based. She knows how to develop the character overtime so that it works for the story. She gets her shocks through actions of the characters in the past and in the present. Man did I love seeing how these characters reacted to the certain situations put in front of them.

Since Liz is big on character development, she likes to use multiple point of views. I feel when done right it can be really enjoyable. I felt for this book three was the perfect amount. In her book, Unraveling Oliver, she had over five point of views. I still really enjoyed that book but for the first couple of chapters it took some getting use to. In Lying in Wait, I had no problem getting into the story right away. I couldn’t wait to see how these characters were connected to each other.

Lastly, Liz really got me with her ending. I was not expecting it at all. I had some theories of what I thought was going to happen at the end but I was completely wrong. I’m not saying anything about it besides holy shit.

I highly recommend you check out Liz Nugent’s books. They do not disappoint. Plus I feel it is very different from a lot of the popular thrillers out there. I haven’t seen too many character driven thrillers like this. It’s a really nice change of pace. I can’t wait to get my hands on Liz’s other new book. Apparently right now it’s only in Ireland.
