Blogmas Day 21: My Disappointing Reads of 2019

Hey guys! So today I thought I would share with you books I was really looking forward to reading but disappointed me. These are all books I read in 2019. They can be books that came out before or came out in 2019. I am so bummed about these books because I wanted to love all of these. Some of these were even in my 5 Star Prediction Post that I did. So let’s dive in and see what books these are

This was a book I was so excited for last year. Sadly I let the excitement get to me and didn’t pick it up until this year. Sadly I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought. It’s been a little while now since I read it but I just didn’t enjoy it like her other stories. I felt there were way too many mistakes that happened. I just couldn’t get into it like her other books and it was a shame. This was one of the books I thought would be 5 stars.

The Princess Bride2. The Princess Bride By William Goldman

I was so excited to read this. I’ve watched the movie and really enjoyed it. So I thought it would be the same for the book. Sadly that wasn’t the case. I just feel the story didn’t work well for me in book form. I found myself very bored and wasn’t able to focus on it. I’ll be sticking with the movie. This also was another 5 star prediction for me.

So my main problem with this book is the very instalove connection. The guy basically falls for the girl right away. I was happy she didn’t right away but as to except she does at some point. I ended up enjoying this characters more when they were alone than when they were together. It’s a shame. I am curious about the movie. I wouldn’t mind seeing if I like more than the book.

Sadie4. Sadie By Courtney Summers

Now this book was extremely popular when it came out last year. All I heard people talking about in the book community was Sadie. So it was very hyped from the start. I’m sad to say I didn’t love it as majority of the people in the community did. I just think the story didn’t do it for me. It didn’t really do much for me like it did for other people. Now I do have to say the audiobook was incredible. I thought it was so well done. It had a full cast of people, sound effects, and podcast parts when needed. It was one of the most well done audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. I just wasn’t as fully into the story as everyone else was.

Hot Dog Girl5. Hot Dog Girl By Jennifer Dugan

So this book was a more recent discover for me. The moment I read the summary I was sold. I was really excited for it. Sadly it really did not do it for me. I found it to be very predictable. I also felt the whole situation the girl puts her best friend in and the whole point of it messed up. I don’t want to say too much so I looked at the summary to see what I could say. Basically she comes up with this plan to get closer to her crush who already has a girlfriend. I was very disappointed.

The Cabin at the End of the World6. The Cabin in The Woods By Paul Tremblay

So this book was one of my most anticipated books of 2018. I finally got around to picking it up and it just didn’t do it for me. I felt the beginning of it was very strong. I was super intrigued with what was going on. I needed to know more. Then by the middle of the story I was just bored and had lost interest in it. I feel I would have enjoyed this more if it was a short story.

the favorite daughter7. The Favorite Daughter By Kaira Rouda

I read Best Day Ever By Kaira and loved it. So the moment I heard she was coming out with a new mystery book I was sold. Sadly I didn’t end up liking this one. I wasn’t a fan of the main character. She annoyed me to no end. She was just very controlling and just a horrible person. I almost DNF’d the book. I decide to keep going because I had to review it for Netgalley. It was hard to get through. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to this one.

Capturing the Devil8. Capturing the Devil By Kerri Maniscalco

So I was really looking forward to the ending of this series. I wasn’t sure how it was going to end but if it was anything like the other books, I knew I’d like it. Sadly for me this book wasn’t what I was hoping for. Sure I enjoyed it but it didn’t do it for me. I feel this book had a lot of unnecessary drama that kind of just happened to hurt the characters. Also the book isn’t very action packed until the end of the book. Sure I like the romance but I’ve always enjoyed Audrey Rose and Thomas solving the main crime of the book. There was unnecessary drama that kept them back from doing so. It really wasn’t how I was excepting this book to end.

So these are my most disappointing reads of 2019. I was really looking forward to reading these. I just didn’t find them as enjoyable as I thought I would. I also feel like some of these were just too hyped for me and I had high expectations.

What are some of your most disappointing reads of 2019?

  1. A lot of the hyped up books for me were disappointments this year! Sorcery of Thorns, Serpent & Dove, The Merciful Crow, Sawkill Girls – I could go on and on lol. I DNF-ed a lot more books this year which I’m proud of!

Sorry these ended up being let downs for you! 😦

    1. Aw no I am so sorry to hear that. I remember hearing a good amount of all those books. It’s a shame you didn’t like them. I do wish I did more DNFs in 2019. I usually am better at that. Thankfully 2020 is off to a really good start.
