December Movie Wrap-up Part 1

Hey guys! It’s time for my December movie wrap-up. I honestly am shocked by how many movies I watched in December. I ended up watching 14 movies! I ended up watching a lot of Christmas movies and also got to do some movie watching when traveling. So a really good month for movie watching. Plus I feel like I ended up liking most of what I watched. Since I ended up watching so much I’m breaking this up in to two posts. So let’s dive in and see the 7 movies I ended up watching.

One Cut of the DeadOne Cut of the Dead Directed By Shin’ichirô Ueda

Genre: Comedy, Horror
Runtime: 96 mins
Released: September 24th 2019 (USA)
Rating: Not Rated

Plot: Things go badly for a hack director and film crew shooting a low budget zombie movie in an abandoned WWII Japanese facility, when they are attacked by real zombies.

My Thoughts: So I had randomly seen talk about this movie. I heard a lot of good things about it so I decided I would watch it on my flight to New Orleans. I really ended up enjoying this a lot more than I thought. It was just so funny and very entertaining. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. I did just see that they ended up making a spin-of which I really want to watch. I don’t know if the spin-off is available yet in the states but I will keep my eyes out for it.

Second ActSecond Act Directed By Peter Segal

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance
Runtime: 103 mins
Released: December 21st 2018
Rating: PG-13

Plot: A big box store worker reinvents her life and her life-story and shows Madison Avenue what street smarts can do.

My Thoughts: This movie has been on my watch list for since I heard about it. I’m a big J.lo fan and I also really like Milo Ventimiglia. That was my draw for wanting to watch this movie. I ended up really liking this movie. There were a couple different stories involving  Jennifer Lopez’s character and I really enjoyed them. I loved seeing them come together. It really was cute and just overall I thought well done.

Ready or NotReady or Not Directed By Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett

Genre: Comedy, Horror, Mystery, Thriller
Runtime: 95 mins
Released: August 21st 2019
Rating: R

Plot: A bride’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.

My Thoughts: The moment I saw this trailer, I knew I had to watch it. It just looked like such a fun horror movie. I just love that it takes an adult spin on hide and go seek. I thought it was a really enjoyable movie. I feel it didn’t really take itself very seriously. The only thing that I didn’t like was the ending. I do feel it goes with the movie and it makes sense I just wasn’t a huge fan. Still overall really enjoyed it. I feel like I might watch it again to see if I feel the same about the ending.

The Princess SwitchThe Princess Switch Directed By Mike Rohl

Genre: Romance, Holiday
Runtime: 101 mins
Released: November 16th 2018
Rating: TV-PG

Plot: Competing in a Christmas baking competition in Belgravia, a Chicago baker bumps into the prince’s fiancée–who looks just like her. They switch lives for two days.

My Thoughts: There are a good amount of Netflix Christmas movies I’ve been meaning to watch. So I decided to put this on when I started wrapping Christmas wrapping. I always like the story of when people look the same and switch places. That’s been done a lot and I just think it’s a fun story. This ended up being really cute. I loved seeing them try to act like the other one when they still had so much to learn about each other. The only thing I was a little surprised by the reaction of the people they tricked. I still really enjoyed the movie. I know they are making a second one so I’m excited for that. I am curious what’s going to happen in that one.

White ChristmasWhite Christmas Directed By Michael Curtiz

Genre: Comedy, Musical, Romance
Runtime: 120 mins
Released: November 15th 1954
Rating: Not Rated

Plot: A successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general.

My Thoughts: I don’t think I have ever seen this movie before but it’s now one of my favorite Christmas movies. I just loved the story so much. I loved seeing the two main characters reconnect with their old commanding general and their plan to help save his inn. Plus the music in this movie is so good. They all had amazing voices. I didn’t realize that one of the main characters was actually a singer. I’ve listened to the versions of his Christmas songs but didn’t realize it was him. It also was such a funny movie! I found myself laughing at so many parts. I can’t wait to add this to my Christmas traditions.

Dr. Seuss' The GrinchDr. Seuss’ The Grinch Directed By Yarrow Cheney and Scott Mosier

Genre: Animation, Family, Fantasy
Runtime: 85 mins
Released: November 9th 2018
Rating: PG

Plot: A grumpy Grinch plots to ruin Christmas for the village of Whoville.

My Thoughts: I am a huge Grinch fan. I really like the other animated film and I also like the live action film a lot. So I decided to watch it since it was on Netflix. I overall liked it but I enjoy the other films a lot more. I just ended how the stories were told in the other movies. I did think the animation was really nice. Plus Max is just absolutely adorable.

A Christmas PrinceA Christmas Prince Directed By Alex Zamm

Genre: Comedy, Family, Romance
Runtime: 92 mins
Released: November 17th 2017
Rating: TV-PG

Plot: When a reporter goes undercover as a tutor to get the inside scoop on a playboy prince, she gets tangled in some royal intrigue and ends up finding love – but will she be able to keep up her lie?

My Thoughts: This is another Netflix movie I had heard about that I really wanted to watch. Plus after hearing that there were two other movies in this series I really wanted to check it out. I ended up really enjoying this movie. I thought it was so cute. It’s a fun holiday rom-com. Plus I knew what was going to happen especially after seeing title of their other movies. I can’t wait to continue on with the series.

What movies did you guys see in December? Any movies you recommend I watch? Have you seen any of the movies I listed? I would love to hear your thoughts!
