My January Movie Wrap-up

Hey guys! I am excited to share with you the movies that I ended up watching in January. My list wasn’t as long as December. I ended up only watching 3 movies this month. So not too many. I would like to step it up and watch more than 3 this month but we shall see how that goes. So let’s dive in and see what I watched in January.

Weathering with YouWeathering with You Directed By Makoto Shinkai

Genre: Animation, Drama, Fantasy, Romance
Runtime: 112 mins
Released: January 17th 2020 (USA)
Rating: PG-13

Plot: A high-school boy who has run away to Tokyo befriends a girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather.

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I thought the animation was so well done. It’s so beautiful. I mean just look at the movie poster. It looks like that throughout the whole movie. The rain animations are so well done and very realistic. I also saw a comparison of real places in japan vs how they look in this movie and it’s spot on. I really would highly recommend you guys check this one out. I feel it’s not as well known. I also recommend checking out his film Your Name. Both are amazing movies and visually stunning.

JokerJoker Directed By Todd Phillips

Genre: Crime, Drama
Runtime: 122 mins
Released: October 4th 2019
Rating: R

Plot: In Gotham City, mentally troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego: the Joker.

My Thoughts: I really wanted to see Joker really badly. It was on my list of films I didn’t get to in 2019. I was happy when my boyfriend told me he wanted to watch it. I thought it was a interesting take on a comic villain that is so well known. I thought the shots were great. It dealt with a lot of dark topics and gave a backstory for Joker who doesn’t normally have one. I also thought Joaquin Phoenix did an incredible job. He played the character so well. Overall really enjoyed this one. I am curious to see if there’s going to be another one.

The Jay & Silent Bob RebootJay and Silent Bob Reboot Directed By Kevin Smith

Genre: Comedy
Runtime: 105 mins
Released: October 15th 2019
Rating: R

Plot: Jay and Silent Bob return to Hollywood to stop a reboot of the ‘Bluntman and Chronic’ movie from getting made.

My Thoughts: So I have seen a good amount of Kevin Smith’s movies. I thought they weren’t bad. I wouldn’t say I am a Kevin Smith fan. Well this movie just basically combines his old classics and adds it to this story. I didn’t really laugh majority of this movie. I did think it was cool seeing all the people who were in his movies come together for this. That was the only thing I really ended up enjoying. Everything else just felt meh. Maybe if you’re a huge Kevin Smith fan you’ll enjoy this. It just fell flat for me.

What movies did you guys see in January? Any movies you recommend I watch? Have you seen any of the movies I listed? I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I have really been wanting to see Joker. Joaquin Phoenix looks incredibly intense in it! I did actually see The Jay & Silent Bob Reboot movie. My husband is a Kevin Smith fan. He and his best friend used to watch them all together so its a big nostalgia thing. I don’t care much either way but…pretty funny. I watch for the celeb cameos. 😛

    1. Oh I highly recommend. Joaquin Phoenix does an incredible job in the movie. He is such a fantastic actor. Yeah I’ve watched a good amount of Kevin Smith’s movies so it was fun seeing all the people from his previous ones pop up in it. I think that was my favorite part of the whole movie.
