Blogmas Day 9: Try A Chapter #1

Hey guys! So for the month of December I have decided to attempt to Try A Chapter a day. I have so many books at home and on my radar. It gets so overwhelming. I thought this would be a fun way to help with that. My goal is to get rid of some books while making books I’ve had sitting on my shelf a priority. Some of these books aren’t on my TBR or on my actual shelf, they are a part of The 25 Reads of December. They include a lot of new releases this year that I haven’t heard of but am interested in learning more about. I did do a post about The 25 Reads of December which you can find HERE. Now let’s dive in to see what books I checked out!

Day 1

Transcendent Kingdom By Yaa Gyasi

The first chapter of this book was very short. It was only 2 pages. Even though it was short I was very intrigued. I really ended up enjoying the writing. It really grabbed my attention. I don’t think I’ll read it this but I’d like to pick it up next year.

Day 2

Give Me a K-I-L-L By R.L. Stine

When I was younger I really loved Fear Street. I feel those were the books that got me into mystery/thrillers. I ended up winning this a couple of years ago. I didn’t end up loving it. It’s a bit cheesy for my liking now. However I kinda want to read it just because it gives me a sense of nostalgia. I think it would fun to return to the world of Fear Street.

Day 3

Leaving Time By Jodi Picoult

I don’t know how long I’ve owned this book but it’s been sitting on my shelf for a while. My friend and I picked this out when Barnes and Nobles was having one of their deals. I did end up reading the prologue and the chapter after that. I had zero interest in anything that happened. There was a lot about elephants. I did see people saying that something bad happened to her mother at the elephant sanctuary her parents owned. That is why there is so much elephant talk. However I found myself very disinterested and not invested in the story line. I’m going to give this back to my friend. I do hope she enjoys it more than me.

Day 4

The Dry By Jane Harper

This book has high on my list to get to. I have been slacking. I ended up only reading the prologue. I got behind on my try a chapter. Anyway, I wasn’t sure what was going on. It was a quick prologue. I honestly wasn’t very invested. I do still want to keep this because it has been a book I’ve been looking forward to reading. I am a bit cautious and worried I won’t like it. I do want to give it a chance though.

Day 5

In the Woods By Tara French

This is another book that I have owned for a while. I have been meaning to pick it up. I think I’ve had mixed feelings about it. So I feel that had me not wanting to pick it up. I also only read the prologue. It was descriptive but don’t really know what’s happening. I honestly think this is going to be a book I get rid of and take it off my TBR.

Day 6

We Are the Wildcats By Siobhan Vivian

I was drawn to this book because of it’s cover. I honestly was a bit skeptical about this one. I have read one other book by this author and wasn’t a huge fan. However I found the first chapter of this enjoyable. It ended up keeping me engaged. I do plan to read more of this once I finish one of my current reads.

Day 7

Facing the Sun By Janice Lynn Mather

I had not heard about this book until seeing it on the 25 Reads of December. The summary interested me. It was just another book I couldn’t get into. It’s such a shame because it sounded really interesting.

Those were the books I tried for the first week of December. This was very helpful to my TBR. I ended up getting rid of two books I owned. I also became interested in a new book that wasn’t on my radar. So that was really fun! I can’t wait to see what week two brings.

Have you guys read any of these books, if so what did you think of them? If not do you have any interest in picking any of these up?
