Blogmas Day 10: New To Me Authors

Hey guys! I am so excited to talk about the new to me authors that I read in 2021. This year I once again read a good amount of new to me authors. I read 21 to be exact which I didn’t plan. I’m going to narrow it down and talk about the authors’ books I enjoyed and will read from again. So let’s dive in to see who these authors are!

Gloria Chao

I read Rent a Boyfriend. This book was part of last year’s 25 Reads of December. I read the first chapter for this during try a chapter last year and was super interested in it. I decided to pick it up right away in January. I ended up really enjoying the story so much. I really enjoyed the main character. Her parents have arranged for her to marry this horrible guy. She continues to fight back because that’s not what she wants. Plus there is fake dating in this story! I can’t wait to read more.

Sylvain Neuvel

I would have thought after last try a chapter that Sleeping Giants would have been my first read by Sylvain but that is not the case. I listened to The Test because it was such a quick read. I remember thinking how intense this was for such a short book. So much has happened in the story. It was such a wild book. I need to get to Sleeping Giants. I did like the first chapter. I just never picked it up. Hopefully in 2022.

Robyn Harding

I ended up reading The Perfect Family because I won in it a goodreads giveaway. I knew nothing about it so decided to take a chance. I ended up really enjoying this book. I do feel this book was more just a lot of drama then a thriller. It still was really enjoyable. I was engaged the entire book. I do plan to pick up the other book by Robyn next year. I do hope I enjoy it as much as this one.

Rebecca Hanover

I ended up winning The Similars in a giveaway hosted by the author. I had been wanting to read it for a while. I finally decided to pick it up. I really liked it a lot. There was so much going on in this book. There was never a dull moment. Plus I’ve learned that I really enjoy books that take place in a boarding school. I’m not sure why but I just love that atmosphere. This book ended up being a 5 star for me. The ending was very shocking and I never would have suspected it. I plan to pick up the second book this month. I do hope Rebecca writes another book.

Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I read The Inheritance Games and The Hawthorne Legacy. I am anxiously waiting for The Final Gambit to come out. This book was a lot of fun. There is just so much to uncover. Jennifer does an incredible job coming up with puzzles and riddles for the characters to solve. If I was in this situation I don’t think I would have gotten as far as them. I have no clue what’s going to in the last book but I can’t wait!

Caitlin Starling

This is the only author on this list whose book I didn’t like. I read The Death of Jane Lawrence. I was enjoying it in the beginning and then it just completely fell flat. I was confused by what was going on. I couldn’t understand it at all. I also just felt it kept getting repetitive. Even though I didn’t enjoy the book I did like the writing. I also have been really wanting to read Caitlin’s book, The Luminous Dead. I have heard a lot of great things about that book. I am hoping I like that one a lot more than this one.

These are all the new authors I read this year. I really can’t get over that I ended up reading 21 new authors. I just find that funny because I didn’t plan to. I have to say it is hard to pick favorites from this list. I really enjoyed these books a lot besides The Death of Jane Lawrence. Even though that’s the case I still can’t wait to check out other books from these authors. I do hope to get to them because lately I’ve been making TBRs and then not sticking to them. I’ve been mood reading lately.

What are some of the new authors you read this year and really liked?

  1. Great post! After reading your thoughts on the book The Similars, I am definitely hoping to check that book out. This year, so far, I’ve read books by two new authors to me. I finally read Turtles All The Way Down by John Green, such a good book. I am currently reading Normal People by Sally Rooney, I’ve only read about 100 pages so far, and so far it’s such a great book read!
