Blogmas Day 11: My Most Anticipated Books of 2022

Hey guys!! I can’t get how December is just flying by. I swear so many things have happened this year that feel like they happened years ago. Overall it’s been a decent year. One of the things I look forward to is getting hyped for the new books of the new year. I have to say I haven’t been super up to date with what’s coming out. I haven’t been on Twitter a lot lately. I feel like I usually find out about new releases from Twitter. YouTube does help me out a lot with new releases as well. I do try to look up my favorite authors every once in a while to see. Sometimes things just slip through the cracks. So here are some of my most anticipated books of 2022 that are on my radar. Let’s dive in!

Arc Review: So Close to Being the Shit, Y’all Don’t Even Know By Retta

So Close to Being the ShitSo Close to Being the Shit, Y’all Don’t Even Know By Retta

Genre: Nonfiction, Autobiography, Memoir, Humor
Pages: 272 pages
Publication Date: May 29th 2018
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Plot: In So Close to Being the Sh*t, Y’all Don’t Even Know, Parks and Recreation star Retta takes us on her not-so-meteoric rise from roaches to riches (well, rich enough that she can buy $15,000 designer handbags yet scared enough to know she’s always a heartbeat away from ramen with American cheese).

Throwing her hard-working Liberian parents for a loop, Retta abandons her plan to attend med school after graduating Duke University to move to Hollywood to star in her own sitcom―like her comedy heroes Lucille Ball and Roseanne.

Say what? Word. Turns out Retta might actually be on to something. After winning Comedy Central’s stand-up competition, she should be ready for prime time―but a fear of success derails her biggest dream.

Whether reminiscing about her days as a contract chemist at GlaxoSmithKline, telling “dirty” jokes to Mormons, feeling like the odd man out on Parks, fending off racist trolls on Twitter, flirting with Michael Fassbender, or expertly stalking the cast of “Hamilton,” Retta’s unique voice and refreshing honesty will make you laugh, cry, and laugh so hard you’ll cry.

Her eponymous sitcom might not have happened yet, but by the end of So Close to Being the Sh*t, you’ll be rooting for Retta to be the next one-named wonder to take over your television. And she just might inspire you to reach for the stars, too.

Book Review: Dry By Augusten Burroughs

32370Dry By Augusten Burroughs

Goodreads Synopsis: You may not know it, but you’ve met Augusten Burroughs. You’ve seen him on the street, in bars, on the subway, at restaurants: a twenty-something guy, nice suit, works in advertising. Regular. Ordinary. But when the ordinary person had two drinks, Augusten was circling the drain by having twelve; when the ordinary person went home at midnight, Augusten never went home at all. Loud, distracting ties, automated wake-up calls, and cologne on the tongue could only hide so much for so long. At the request (well, it wasn’t really a request) of his employers, Augusten landed in rehab, where his dreams of group therapy with Robert Downey, Jr., are immediately dashed by the grim reality of fluorescent lighting and paper hospital slippers. But when Augusten is forced to examine himself, something actually starts to click, and that’s when he finds himself in the worst trouble of all. Because when his thirty days are up, he has to return to his same drunken Manhattan life and live it sober. What follows is a memoir that’s as moving as it is funny, as heartbreaking as it is real. Dry is the story of love, loss, and Starbucks as a higher power. Continue reading “Book Review: Dry By Augusten Burroughs”
