Top 5 Wednesday: Summer Reads

Hey guys!! I’m so excited to do another Top 5 Wednesday. I am super excited for this one because it has to do with Summer. Summer is my favorite time of the year. The theme is Summer Reads –The weather is heating up (for half of the world), so what books remind you of summer and are your quintessential summer reads?

Girl Out of WaterGirl Out of Water By Laura Silverman

Reason: Okay so I’m so happy to have this 2017 debut author on my list. I read this book and I absolutely loved it. It deals with the main character basically not being able to take part in the summer she has been super excited for. It was really fun and enjoyable. It truly is a great coming of age story that I really highly recommend. I hope to reread this soon.

Dangerous GirlsDangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

Reason: Okay so this isn’t a summer book it has to do with spring break but it gives me summer vibes. I mean just look at that cover doesn’t it scream summer. Plus when I read this it was summer time so that counts, right? I really enjoyed this book and it really kept me guessing until the end. If you haven’t read this you should check it out.

the-truth-about-foreverThe Truth About Forever By Sarah Dessen

Reason: Okay so I’m really upset I waited so long to read this book. I really liked it a lot. It takes place in the summer. Macy spends her summer at a job where her coworkers don’t like her and she spend the rest of the day studying. She doesn’t have much of a life until she decides to work at a catering job. This was such a great story. I loved seeing the development of Macy. It really is such a great story that I have sat on for way too long.

25 Veronica Mars The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line

The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line By Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham

Reason: This is another book that takes place during spring break but it also gives me summer vibes at the same time. I mean just look at the title and the book cover alone. I am a huge Veronica Mars fan and I am so happy these books were made to keep the spirit of the show going strong. I really enjoyed it and I have the second one waiting for me to read. I’m just not ready for it to be over. If you’re a fan of Veronica Mars than I highly recommend you check this out!

Anything that was written by Morgan Matson

Reason: I am a huge fan of Morgan. I’ve only read two of her books but this month I plan on reading the other two I haven’t read yet plus rereading the other books. I love Morgan’s books so much. They give off the ultimate summer vibes. I mean you really can’t go wrong with these books. They’re so fun.

Have you guys read any of the books on this list? What are some books that give you those summer vibes? I would love to hear what you guys have to say. Summer contemporaries are so fun to read.

Top 5 Wednesday: Books as Event Themes

So once again it’s time for Top 5 Wednesday. I am super excited for this one because it’s a bit different and sounds like so much fun. I love the idea of having books bring people together so why not have events inspired by books.

This week’s theme : Books as Events Themes — It’s party season, whether that is high school prom, weddings, or summer holiday events. What books would make a good party/event theme??

You Will Know MeYou Will Know Me By Megan Abbott

Reason: Okay so right away I think this would be fun without the murder. This book has gymnastics in it. I don’t know if you guys have ever been to the places where they have the foam pit with the rope where you swing a couple times and jump in. I picture there being a trampoline. I also picture rock climbing. I feel that would be a fun event for people to go to. It’s fun and it’s different. It’s been ages since I did the foam pit and have always wanted to go back.

Since You've Been GoneSince You’ve Been Gone By Morgan Matson

Reason: So in this book Sloane disappears and leaves her best friend Emily a list of things she must do. So it’s basically a scavenger hunt. I think this would be such a great thing to do with a bunch of people. I love it because you can easily come up with stuff. I know girls do this sometimes for their bachelorette parties so you can have fun with it. This is something I’ve always wanted to do with my friends. I can see it being really fun and having people take risks.

IASIPIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The 7 Secrets of Awakening the Highly Effective Four-Hour Giant, Today By The Gang

Reason: Okay so I’m a huge It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fan. I feel it would be so fun to have a themed party. There are so many people you can dress up as. I can see it being a really great time. I just wish I had more friends that watched IASIP. If you watch, let’s get a IASIP happening soon.

Lady Mechanika Vol. 1Lady Mechanika, Vol. 1: The Mystery of Mechanical Corpse By Joe Benítez

Reason: Lady Mechanika is a comic I just discovered this year. It’s steampunk which I don’t really read a lot of. I absolutely love the artwork. The artist dis such an amazing job with all the costumes. I think it would be fun to dress up like the characters in this comic. I can see if people get really into it they would have some amazing costumes.

And Then There Were NoneAnd Then There Were None By Agatha Christie

Reason: Okay so I mainly put this on my list because I really want to do a murder mystery type of party. I think that would be such a fun concept. I know my friend went to one about a year ago and it seemed like she liked it. I love the idea that everyone is playing a character and you’re trying to figure out who the murder is. I love mystery and thrillers so it’s basically like living those books except nobody actually ends up dying and killing anyone. I do hope to go to one soon.

Would you guys attend any of these events based off books? I do have to say this was a toughie but I really enjoyed trying to pick out books for this. What are some books you would base an event off of? I really would learn to hear what you guys come up with!

Month of Matson

So I recently found out that Maureen Graham over at MaureenKeavy on YouTube created Month of Matson where you spend the month reading Morgan Matson’s book. She started it in 2015 and has continued doing it since. The Month of Matson will begin tomorrow, May 1st.

When I heard about this I was super excited. I ended up buying Morgan Matson’s box set in March which included Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, Second Chance Summer, and Since You’ve Been Gone. I had to get my hands on this because two of these books I haven’t read yet. I’m excited that the paperback of The Unexpected Everything was just released because it has extra bonus content on it. So I need to get my hands on that one A.S.A.P.

I am super excited to read the books I haven’t read already and to freshen up on the ones I have. I know I am going to discover new things because Morgan likes to have old characters appear in her recent books. So I’m super excited to see what I missed.

Morgan Matson is hands down one of my favorite contemporary authors. I am excited to be partaking in this. I am excited because in June Morgan will be making an appearance at Book Con in June. I really hope she ends up doing a signing because I would love to meet her and get my books signed. I know she will be doing a panel there so I hope I am lucky in getting in on this.

Will you be partaking in Month of Matson? If so have you read any of Morgan Matson’s books or will this be your first time reading them? I would love to hear your thoughts.
