My Favorite Books of 2018

Hey guys! I am so excited for this post. I think last year I did it in December. This time around I decided I wanted to wait until 2018 was over. I didn’t want to miss out on any books. So now let’s dive in!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo By Taylor Jenkins Reid

I feel 2018 was the year for this book. I saw so many people reading and talking about this book. I am so bummed it took me so long to pick up. I am so glad I did though. I read this book in February and it was one of the few books to stick with me for the rest of the year. I do plan to reread this again very soon.

Ace of Shades2. Ace of Shades By Amanda Foody

Last year I had the honor of being part of The Shadow Gang. I was a little anxious because I was so worried I’d be promoting a book I didn’t like but I ended up loving this book. I loved the world and the magic system. It was so detailed. I didn’t want to put the book down. I can’t wait for the story to continue in King of Fools.

Unraveling Oliver3. Unraveling Oliver By Liz Nugent

I am so excited to announce that I have a new favorite author! Liz Nugent is a truly amazing writer. Her thrillers are very character driven. I believe this book ended up having about 11 different POV. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with so many POVs. I was a bit confused at the beginning but by the end I didn’t want to put it down.

Lying In Wait4. Lying In Wait By Liz Nugent

I knew after reading Unraveling Oliver I had to pick up Lying In Wait. I am happy to say this book did not disappoint. I ended up enjoying it so much. This was another character driven thriller. Liz Nugent just has a way of writing these characters you can’t get enough of. I know she has another book out but it’s not available in the US yet. I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Still Me5. Still Me By JoJo Moyes

So I read the first two books in this series. I enjoyed the first one even though I thought it was a bit predictable. The second one I wasn’t really a fan of. This one I ended up really enjoying. I really enjoyed seeing the growth of Louisa over the course of the three books. I thought this was a nice way to end the story.

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance6. Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance By Ruth Emmie Lang

So this book wasn’t on my radar at all. It ended up being a buddy read. I have to say I ended up really enjoying this book so much. The main character Weylyn was such a precious character. I loved learning about him and the people that came and went through his life. This book had some magical realism in it which I wasn’t expecting. It really added to the story. I am interested to check out more from Ruth Emmie Lang.

Scythe7. Scythe By Neal Shusterman

This is another book I am really upset that I didn’t pick up sooner. I am glad I finally did because this is hands down becoming one of my favorite series. I love Neal Shusterman’s writing. It is so detailed and really just sucks you in. Every time I picked up this book I didn’t want to put it down. I need more.

1. Game of Thrones8. Game of Thrones By George R.R. Martin

I have been such a huge fan of Game of Thrones for a while. I finally decided I needed to pick up the book. It took me most of the year to read this book but I really enjoyed it. George has written such a detailed world. I can’t wait to read the next one. I hope it won’t take me as long.

Thunderhead9. Thunderhead By Neal Shusterman

Well I thought book one was amazing but wow Thunderhead really stole the show. It honestly didn’t want to put it down. I decided to take my time with reading this one. It had so many great moments. I was shocked majority of this book. I was so disappointed when it ended because currently there is no release date for book three. I am dying here Neal! I need book three now. I honestly can see myself rereading this series again because there is just so much information. That will hold me over while I wait for the third book.

So those are my favorite books of 2018. I feel this was a tough reading year for me. I wasn’t that impressed with a lot of the books I read. I am happy though that I ended up enjoying all these books. I do hope this year is better for reading.

What were your favorite books of 2018? Did any of these books make your list?

  1. I finished Scythe and gave it five stars, thinking it was one of the best books I’ll read this year. A few days later, I finished Thunderhead and realized that if Scythe is five stars, then Thunderhead needs to be a six-star read!

    1. Yes I feel this so much! I was a little worried at the start but the more I got into it the more I was like wow this is even better. So many shocking moments. I am so bummed we don’t have a release date for The Toll yet. I need it now.

  2. Still Me was definitely a satisfactory and great end for Louisa! I enjoyed her character growth over the course of the trilogy as well! She just really came into her own. One of my favourite books that I read last year is La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman! It’s been so long since His Dark Materials, and I just very much enjoyed being back in that magical world.

    1. Yeah I really ended up enjoying Still Me. I was a little worried because I wasn’t a fan of the second book but this worked out so well. I just looked up Philip Pullman and I’ve never read anything by him but I do know of some of his books. I love the cover of La Belle Sauvage. I’m going to have to check it out.
